Storm Drainage: Managing Runoff in a Growing Waxahachie

Waxahachie Civil Engineering Posted on January 22, 2026 by Civil EngineerJanuary 22, 2026
Stormwater runoff flowing along a curb and gutter drainage system in Waxahachie, Texas

Waxahachie’s storm drainage system plays a critical role in managing runoff as the city continues to grow. Guided by the City of Waxahachie Storm Drainage Design Manual, drainage infrastructure is designed to safely convey stormwater away from streets, homes, and public facilities to reduce flooding risks. Residential streets are typically designed for a 25-year storm event, while major roadways accommodate up to a 100-year storm. Accepted hydrologic methods are used to calculate runoff, and overflow paths are required to manage extreme storm conditions. Together, these standards help ensure reliable, safe, and cost effective stormwater management across the city.
